We are slowly making progress.
On August 1, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. the dissertation defence of our colleague Ing. Jakub Krchnák. The topic of his thesis was Antenna System Diagnostics. The chairman of the examination committee was prof. Weis. For the first time during the defence of PhD theses at the Institute of Electrical Engineering an international committee was formed, in which an expert in the field of electromagnetic compatibility, doc. Pospíšilík from FAI UTB. The topic and the presentation of the PhD student was very interesting, both for the committee and for the numerous listeners, which was evidenced by the number of questions and the length of the defense of almost 2 hours.
Aim and benefits of the work
The aim of this work is to propose, present and unify a set of tasks and measurements in order to improve the process of identifying a faulty antenna in an antenna system. The thesis discusses the diagnosis of an antenna system using measurements of the electromagnetic field strength in the vicinity of the antenna system. The thesis includes an analysis of diagnostic methods of antenna systems used in practice or research and a description of the procedure and subsequent calculation of radiation characteristics using computational software based on numerical methods. Contributions of the work:
Successful resolution of the dissertation has benefits not only within the diagnostic AS, but also in the context of directional characteristic measurements using a quadcopter. Based on the analysis in the second part of the thesis, it is possible to streamline the measurement process itself and reduce the magnitude of systematic errors that result from measuring at insufficient distance. The analysis in the third part of the thesis allows for efficient processing of the measured directional characteristics and thanks to it it is possible to minimize the scatter of the data while maintaining the characteristic shape of the directional characteristic.
“The application of the knowledge gained during the dissertation will allow to detect a damaged antenna in a large antenna system, without the need to switch off the transmitter. This is a unique method in the world. “
The method will be deployable in real use, for example, by our practice partners fy. Towercom a. s.
